GM ASEP is a two-year cooperative program that incorporates technical studies on campus for four quarters, alternating with three quarters at a sponsoring General Motors dealership. Upon completion of this program, students will earn a Technical AAAS and numerous General Motors technical certifications that are recognized worldwide.
Alternating each quarter from classroom instruction to paid dealership training, students learn about the major automobile components and systems, including brakes, suspension, emissions, transmissions, electrical systems, heating and air conditioning, power trains and engine management systems. Students will develop skills in automotive diagnostics, tune-ups and repairs.
Students also develop an understanding of automotive service business principles as they apply to the service technician. In their internship placements, students work under the guidance of a master technician at a sponsoring General Motors Dealership. These paid internships give students the opportunity to integrate their learning and further develop their skills in service technology.
The placement rate for this program is 100%. Upon completion, graduates are hired by their sponsoring dealership. Demand for dealer-trained technicians should remain strong over the next decade.
